Western Bluebird, Summer Afternoon

western-bluebird

I thought, while it was freezing raining outside, that I’d make something that evokes the scent of a sun-washed field with tall grasses and wildflowers, a gentle breeze, and the sounds of crickets and bluebirds calling. Back in August I needed to create a demo piece for some workshops, so I drew this Western Bluebird in colored pencil to show how contrasting color temperatures can create the illusion of space. Blue and orange served a perfect example. Last week I added layers of watercolor and more colored pencil to complete the image and the mood. Prints of this piece are available in my shop. The original will be framed and for sale at an upcoming exhibit.
